Fire Service Education and Training

The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) is the designated fire service education and training delivery mechanism for the more than 870 fire departments in the state. The WTCS has 16 technical college districts with 47 campuses throughout the state. Each WTCS district has a cadre of highly qualified, certified fire service instructors. All 16 districts offer approved fire service training courses.

Facilities
Thirteen of the 16 WTCS districts have fixed, live-fire training facilities and are designated Regional Fire Training Centers. Other districts offer a variety of portable training modules that allow performance-based education and training to be delivered on-site "in the field." One district additionally possesses facilities and equipment to provide comprehensive environmental safety and hazardous materials handling education and training.

Associate Degree Programs
Six districts offer Fire Protection Technician Associate Degrees. The Fire Protection Technician program is also shared with 4 additional districts utilizing a combination of conventional teaching methods and distance education technology.
