General Purpose Revenue (GPR) Descriptions

Funds under this category are available for Incentive Grants, Health Care Education Grants, Displaced Homemaker Grants, Minority Student Participation and Retention Grants, Transition Services for Individuals with Disabilities Grants, Advanced Chauffeur Training Grants, and Faculty Development Grants.

Incentive Grants

Adult Literacy
Supports projects that advance the use of technology in basic education instruction, improve the transition of students from basic education to occupational education, develop and implement curricula, or establish family literacy, alternative high school equivalency diploma, and ESL transition programs.

Basic Skills
Supports the creation, expansion or maintenance of Adult Secondary Education, Adult Basic Education, and English as a Second Language programs.

New and Expanding Occupations
Funds the development, modification and adaptation of state-approved programs, as well as other projects of statewide significance, that provide the knowledge and skills required by emerging and expanding occupations.

Workplace Adult Basic Education
Supports occupationally related basic skills instruction for employees that is sponsored by partnerships between business, labor and technical colleges.

Health Care Education Grants
Supports increasing enrollments in health care courses and programs. Grants fund new or additional course sections or the purchase of advanced instructional technology.

Displaced Homemakers Grants
Provide services to reduce barriers to employment faced by displaced homemakers and assist displaced homemakers in obtaining marketable skills and securing employment.

Minority Student Participation and Retention Grants
Funding for providing counseling and tutoring for minority students; demonstrating innovative approaches to increasing minority student success in programs with high earning potential; combining basic skills and occupational training to expedite remediation and increase retention; working with community-based organizations to recruit, train, and retain minority students; and providing internships to minority students enrolled in programs that prepare graduates for a teacher education program at a University of Wisconsin campus.

Workforce Advancement Training Grants

Funding to promote increased investment in the development of incumbent workers and expand technical college training services to help businesses and industry meet their training needs. Grants will be awarded to upgrade the skills and productivity of employees of established, for-profit businesses and industries operating in Wisconsin, with the broader objective of supporting regional workforce and economic development efforts.

Transition Services for Individuals with Disabilities Grants
Supports programs for individuals with disabilities who are transitioning from secondary schools or the community to a technical college.

Advanced Chauffeur Training Grants
Supports the development of advanced chauffeur training facilities, the acquisition of instructional equipment, and operational costs associated with maintaining facilities and equipment and coordinating the training programs.

Faculty Development Grants
Promotes instructors’ developing expertise in using a wide variety of emerging technologies and integrating learning technologies into curriculum and instruction.

School-To-Work for At-Risk Youth

Funds a grant to a Milwaukee County nonprofit organization for a school-to-work program for at-risk children. The grant has been used to implement a program affiliated with the national Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program.

Work-Based Learning Grants for Tribal Colleges

Grants to support work-based learning projects at the tribal land grant colleges of Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Community College and the College of the Menominee Nation.
