Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical
Education Improvement Act IV Grant Categories and Funding
The purpose of these funds is to
develop more fully the academic, career, and technical skills of secondary
and postsecondary students who elect to enroll in technical education programs.
Perkins Basic Grant Formula
Funds
Funds are awarded in multiple grant categories and one competitive area:
- Strengthening CTE Programs
Improve the performance outcomes of WTCS programs of significant size and scope that they directly link to maintaining or improving Perkins IV Core Performance Indicators.
- Student Success
Provide direct student and support services designed to meet the needs of designated career and technical education students. Preference is given to providing student and support services to students the college determines are "at risk" of not completing a post secondary career and technical education course/program or obtaining employment upon graduation from a post secondary career and technical education program.
- Nontraditional Occupational (NTO) Training and Employment
Provide retention services to prepare individuals to successfully complete career and technical educational programs in NTO fields and to provide transition and career development services to assist students in enrolling in NTO career and technical educational programs.
- High School to College Transitions
Enhance a high school student's technical and academic skills, providing opportunities for transition to post secondary education, for the joint development of additional programs of study by the college with one or more secondary partners.
- Reserve Funds (Competitive)
Provide leadership to projects related to post secondary career and technical education programs of statewide significance offered in multiple colleges. Promote innovative and successful practices in two areas: Strengthening career and technical education programs; High school to college transitions.
- Flexible Funds
Support college grant activities most likely to result in improved performance on the core Perkins IV performance indicators.
- Tech Prep
Promote and support high school to college transitions for career and technical education students. Enhance a high school student's technical and academic skills and provide opportunites for transition to post secondary education or into the workforce.
