Information About The Historical List of Courses Meeting Certification Requirements

Certification Support Staff and District Certification Officers asked that we provide a list of courses that historically have been used to meet certification requirements. A list of these courses is attached by a hotlink at the end of this document.

We do want to provide some cautions about using this list. First, some of the courses on this list were added before John Orlofske started working in certification. We cannot tell you the standard that was applied in making the decision about accepting the course. You must also appreciate that courses change over time. A favorable decision can be made about a course and one year later the course may be changed to the point where it would no longer be acceptable. However, the course would continue with the same course number. Another major point is that some universities recycle course numbers. A course may be run as a seminar, with one topic this year and another topic next year.

It will be very obvious from the titles why most of the courses are on the list. The list is helpful in recognizing the type of titles you would find for most acceptable courses.

This list should never be used for coaching or counseling individuals about where to take courses to meet the certification requirements. First, the course may not be offered any longer. If the course is offered, it may be different from the one which was accepted. Secondly, the course may have been deemed acceptable, but marginal. There may be many better choices for the individual to select. Always use the published list that districts help to prepare, as stated in Guideline 42. It will have current courses and marginal courses will be continually culled from the list.
