Call for Proposals for Workshop Presentations Guidelines

WTCS Conference on Success for Students of Color - October 3-4, 2007

We invite proposals for presentations in any of the four areas outlined below. We will focus on strategies or programs that are coordinated across different functions and departments of the colleges or otherwise express a college-wide commitment to minority student success.

Teaching, Curriculum, and Student Support Strategies

Issues of pedagogy, learning styles, and curriculum
Services and programs that meet the needs of specific minority student populations
Academic support and student retention models
Faculty and staff development
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics--STEM

Culturally Diverse Faculty and Staff

Recruitment
Retention and support strategies

Inclusive Campus Environment

Perceptions of technical college by minority communities
Strengthening minority students' sense of connection to the college
Learning communities that support minority students
Connection with community institutions

College Planning and Accountability

Equity/diversity scorecard
Goal setting and strategic planning related to minority student success
Using college evaluation and assessment tools to improve services to minority students

Workshop Presentation Details

Workshop sessions will be 60 minutes in length
Presenters should involve the audience and are encouraged to provide handouts to participants (presenters will be responsible for providing copies)
Plan to allow time for questions and discussion
Presenters may be asked to serve on a panel and may be asked to present more than once
Free registration for presenters

Proposal Submission

We are asking you to take two simple steps, both outlined in the Workshop Proposal Form. First, at your earliest opportunity, let your college’s Student Services Administrator and the System Office know about your presentation idea. Second, complete the form and send it to the System Office, again notifying your SSA.

We would like your completed Workshop Proposal Forms by September 12, 2007. Submission instructions are included on the form.

Proposals will be evaluated on:

Quality and clarity of content
Expertise of the presenters relative to subject matter
Diverse and innovative programs
Specific relationship to the conference theme

You will be notified via e-mail if your proposal is accepted.
